Developing Infrastructure Group

About Us

The Developing Infrastructure Group is led by Science and Technology Policy Fellows from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Our group focuses on policies for smart, sustainable, and equitable physical and digital infrastructure in communities, whether large or small, urban or rural, domestic or international.

We are interested in a broad range of infrastructure-related topics that encompass mechanisms and tools for environmental, socioeconomic, and technological resilience. Examples include, but are not limited to: smart city technologies, affordable housing, clean transportation, and broadband access.

We engage with the perspectives of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners around the world working on infrastructure issues to understand community needs, identify barriers to implementation/access, and examine best practices for successful infrastructure programs.

Upcoming Activities

Bicycle Workshop and DC Infrastructure Tour

September 25th, 2021

Join DIG members for a bicycle repair workshop and bicycle infrastructure tour around DC followed by a group lunch. AAAS Fellow Mike Tennenbaum will lead a short interactive workshop on basic bicycle fixes and ride preparation where attendees will learn essential fix-it skills including hands-on experience patching a tire. Then, the group will go for an hour long ride with Joe Toole, a professional Transportation Engineer with immense local knowledge of bicycle infrastructure projects in the District. The ride will be at a slow pace with plenty of stops and mostly flat terrain. We’ll finish up with social hour over lunch for anyone who wants to join.

Workshop: Starts @ 10:30-11:30 at Capitol Hill

Ride: From 11:45-12:45 for a ~6ish mile ride starting and stopping by the Capitol, and a group lunch after the ride

Reach out to our group at info@devinfragroup.com if you are interested in joining!
